Shivamogga, also known as Shivamogga, is a city and the Shivamogga district's district headquarters in the Indian state of Karnataka. The city is located on the Tunga River's banks.

About the City

As the gateway to the Western Ghats' hilly area, the city is affectionately known as the "Gateway to Malnad." According to the 2011 census, the city of Shivamogga has a population of 322,650 people. It is 267 kilometres from the state capital of Bangalore and 195 kilometres from the port city of Mangalore.

The climate is tropical, with rainy and dry summers and annual temperatures ranging from 20 to 35 degrees Celsius (68 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit). As a result, the winter and early summer usually are dry seasons. Between June and early October, the rest of the rain falls. The annual precipitation totals up to 3295mm. The driest months are January and February, the wettest months are July and April, with an annual high temperature of 35.5 degrees Celsius (95.9 degrees F). Shivamogga's coldest months are July, August, November, and December, with an average high temperature of 27 degrees Celsius (80.6 degrees F). Shivamogga's summer temperature exceeds 36 degrees Celsius (April–May).

How to Reach

By Air

The Shivamogga airport, which is about 6 kilometres from the city centre, is still under renovation. The Mangalore International Airport is the closest to Shivamogga and is favoured by visitors. The airport serves many Indian cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Several major airlines, including Air India Express, Jet Airways, and Air Pegasus, operate flights to international destinations such as Muscat, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait. Alternatively, consider the Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore, which is serviced by various airlines and connects to Mumbai, Goa, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.

By Bus

Shivamogga is served by the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), which connects it to neighbouring cities such as Bangalore, Hubli, Sringeri, and Dharmasthala. Shivamogga is linked to other nearby regions by the Solapur-Mangalore Highway (National Highway 13) and the Bangalore-Honnavar Highway (National Highway 206). A bus ride from Bangalore to Shivamogga will take between five and a half and seven and a half hours, depending on the type of bus and the operator selected and the traffic conditions. By Train

Trains to and from Bangalore and Mysore stop at Shivamogga Nagar Railway Station. There are no direct trains from other major Indian cities, however. The InterCity Express Link train and the Shivamogga Express are the most frequently used trains from this rail junction.

Kodachadri

Kodachadri, the Western Ghats crowning gem, is a stunning mountain peak with lush grassy knolls and high elevations. One of the most staggeringly beautiful Shivamogga tourist attractions is designated as a natural heritage site by the Government of Karnataka and is its 10th highest peak. Kodachadri is the tall elevation behind the famous Mookambika Devi temple in the Kollur district.

Honnemaradu

Honnemaradu is a lush green town tucked away beside the majestic and sprawling rivers of the Sharavathi River. It is one of the offbeat Shivamogga Tourist spots. The Sharavathi River's backwaters flow peacefully through this quiet tiny hamlet, which covers an area of 50km by 80km.

Jog Falls

The Jog Falls, India's second-highest waterfalls, cascade from a towering height of around 253 feet and originate in the Sharavathi River's flows. The Jog falls are one of the most beautiful Shivamogga tourist attractions. The Jog Falls is essentially made up of four central and distinct falls, including the Raja Falls. Roarer Falls, Rocket Falls, and Rani Falls are some of the world's most spectacular waterfalls.

Kundadri Hill

Kundadri Hill, a solid rock formation with a Jain Temple at the apex, is located in the Shivamogga region's Thirthahalli Taluka. The KundadriHills, which rise 3,200 feet above sea level, is an excellent destination that is ideal for visiting in any weather situation.
This trek to Kundadri is a heavenly experience set in lush green woodlands. It is also a sacred place for Jains and an excellent place for thrill-seekers to do some trekking and hiking. The hills are named after Kundkundacharya, a Jain priest who is said to have done a stern penance here.

Sakrebailu Elephant Camp

The Sakrebailu Elephant Camp is about 14 kilometres from Shivamogga on Thirthahalli Road. The camp is home to a large number of elephants and is a sight to behold. The elephants are all led by experienced Mahouts who transport them from the nearby forests to snack and play in the Tunga river backwaters.
