The industrial city of Kharagpur is located in West Bengal, the Indian district of Medinipur. It is the head office of the subdivision of Kharagpur. It is the district's most populous, multicultural, and cosmopolitan town.

A booming immobilization industry still exists. The government recently disclosed plans for the construction of a civil airport.
